My Happy Musing for the Day: Focus on the positive and the rest will fall away from lack of interest.
Energy is energy. Might as well make it positive! I've never seen something disappear so fast as when you don't think about it. So many times people work very hard trying to get something or even someone that affects them negatively out of their life, when all they have to do is focus elsewhere. It is like chewing on something that tastes bad. The taste lingers. Eat something else.
There are many in the psychology field who insist on working through things. "You have issues." I say, give up issues. Let them go. Do something else. Analysis paralysis can set in and there one sits. The mind can be a maze of endless turns with personality pitfalls, but the heart is ever-forgiving. It is not interested in the "hows" and "whys". It's interested in the "nows" and "sighs" of something better.
When I taught tennis it was interesting to see this phenomenon of focus in regard to changing a student's motion. Of course many times people would come to me with very unorthodox and cumbersome strokes. Now to change these strokes to something more effective seemed daunting to them. But the truth is I was not interested in changing what they had already learned, only to do something else. It made it so much easier if we did not have to alter what they were doing, but learn something new. That new motion simply replaced the old one without a struggle.
My husband does this trick when he is with his 96-year-old mother. When she gets on a negative jag he just changes the subject. Otherwise it would be an endless dialog of rationalizations for her point of view that never gets anywhere or does anyone any good. Good is what we're after and it's easier had by being positive!
"Life is wonderful. Don't forget it!"
